Thame Art Crawl aims to celebrate the local art scene in our gorgeous little corner of Oxfordshire.

You will be surprised at the amount of talent the area holds. We cannot wait to share it with you.

Returning for the 8th year with an exciting display of artistic talent around Thame Town Centre. Featuring professional and up-and-coming artists, the exhibition will be a fabulous opportunity for you to get out and about and enjoy our town.

The Artists and Businesses currently features are those who took part in 2023. Enjoy looking around our site, which will be updated once the 2024 Artists & Businesses are confirmed.

We have had a great time walking through the town

We have had a great time walking through the town this week for Thame Art Crawl! The event itself ends on Saturday 21 October, so there is still time to grab a map in the Information Centre and take a look yourself! We have artists showcasing print, watercolours, jewellery and photography.

Sally Evans will be hosting a Artists and Makers Fair on
Friday 20 October and Saturday 21 October, in which 8 different artists
will be showcasing their work, and demonstrating their craft!

You can also catch Sparksartists who are hosting a Book2eat tea party at Thame Town Cricket Club on Sunday 22 Oct, who are raising funds for the
Red Kite Family Centre.

Today is the day! The start of 2023's Thame Art Crawl! The windows of the businesses taking part look great! Clare at Thame Town Council will be taking a walk around today recording something special for Red Kite Radio (listen out on John Reid-Hansen's show on Sunday)

If you love art, and supporting local artists, head on down to Thame Art Crawl from Tuesday 17th of October- Saturday 21st. Here's a sample of Christine Jones' work. Christine Jones has been drawing since she was about 8 and has never really stopped. She loved art at school and her art teacher at the time was so inspirational. She loves loose artwork and is mostly inspired by ‘the world around us’, and particularly flowers. She trained as a Furniture Designer/Maker at the London College of Furniture and a the age of 40 she teacher- trained and taught Design & Technology at Thornton College and the Sir Henry Floyd. When she retired, she sailed and painted around the Mediterranean with her late husband, in their 27′ yacht ‘Cariad’ for 15 years. Christine has a small studio area in her home and keeps her work where she can see it and assess any changes needed – stopping at any time to add a bit of colour here and there.

Kim is an experienced printmaker who uses collagra

Kim is an experienced printmaker who uses collagraph, a textured form of hand pulled printing. Her particular technique involves many different components on her printing plates and unusual hand embellishing on the resulting original prints. Kim’s influences have always been about Man’s connection to the Earth and she studies Ancient civilizations, philosophy and sacred sites. Her current work is about Land Traces in all its forms, seen and unseen, from the long trails used by migrating animals and birds to the obvious rock formations displayed from ancient geological activities on the planet as recounted in ancient texts.
The themes of her collections are inspired by thought provoking poems, which often accompany her artwork, Ancient civilisations and their related narratives.
She exhibits up and down the country in solo and group exhibitions with an extensive exhibition planned for later in the year with a few other artists in Derby, entitled ‘Fragile Lands’.
Kim works on her collections throughout the year from her purpose built studio in North Buckinghamshire. She organises textured collagraph workshops for students of all ages and abilities – experienced printmakers and those who have never worked with hand pulled printing before. She is a member of the Buckinghamshire Art Society and acts as Membership Secretary.

Pop Art illustration prints and collages by Oxfordshire artist James Taylor, whose work has previously been shown at Blenheim Palace and with John Lewis and Partners. James’ artwork is often inspired by vintage objects and food, given a bright and colourful contemporary look through a simple but bold colour palette.

“Those Bubble People” ––occasionally abbre

“Those Bubble People” ––occasionally abbreviated to “Those”–– is an artwork label that features a collection of amusingly expressive cartoon characters, each designed and brought to life by their creator and illustrator: Anthony Gabb.
Ant grew up in a small market town within the surroundings of rural Oxfordshire, before qualifying as a professional designer from the University of the West of England in Bristol. He has since compiled a diverse portfolio of work within the design sector, which has thoroughly steered him towards his true creative calling: producing humorous artwork and illustrations!
While appreciating a variety of art genres ––Key Art, Pop Art and Street Art to name a few–– the work Ant produces under “Those Bubble People” is primarily inspired by a beloved back-catalogue of childhood cartoons. Cartoons captivated him from day one, and even now they continue to offer a consistent outlet of distraction, inspiration and entertainment in his day-to-day life.

Wendy has painted for as long as she can remember,

Wendy has painted for as long as she can remember, and her work has been exhibited widely both locally in Worcestershire &, latterly Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire, and also in London Galleries. Her favourite subject is still life, and many paintings feature fruit, flowers, china, copper, brass & crystal. Since moving to Thame, she has painted many Town Centre scenes which have been sold as cards to raise funds for The Friends of Thame Hospital. Wendy has Macular Degeneration; yet being Vision Impaired does not affect her enthusiasm or talent, and she takes inspiration from Monet who painted his finest work when suffering from cataracts. Wendy is now in her 10th decade and can regularly be seen in Thame or hopping on the bus to Oxford.

Tracy is inspired by jewel like colours, pattern and typography thanks to her career as a graphic designer. Colour is the common theme throughout all her pieces, with vibrant tones of pink, yellow and blue dominating. She is most at home by the sea and seaside locations feature heavily in her work. She created in a bright and colour filled little studio at the bottom of her garden (overlooking the pond) where she can watch nature close up – this is where she feels her most creative.
As Tracy says, “In the end, happiness and love are all that are important – so I like to create art that follows that theme and brings joy, light and life.”

Sophie is a designer maker based in Thame. She gra

Sophie is a designer maker based in Thame. She graduated from The prestigious School Of Jewellery in Birmingham in 2012 and set up as a self employed Designer Maker after graduating. Sophie started attending fairs and did her 1st Trade Show in 2014 where she was awarded Best Fashion Accessory 2014. Sophie supplies shops and galleries around the country including Thame Jewellery Workshop.
Sophie’s work is all about pattern, sparkle and nature. She creates unique pieces made from laser cut paper and Perspex all finished with Sterling Silver – and feels most creative when she is in her work room experimenting with new ideas and materials. Her signature pieces are the Reversible Robins which became her business name in 2017. By layering different handmade papers together, necklaces and hoop earrings are reversible which means they are suitable for different outfits and occasions. Nature is a huge influence in Sophie’s work and her designs and colours are quirky, eye catching and suitable for all ages.

Sarah Hanner Hopwood has been doodling, painting,

Sarah Hanner Hopwood has been doodling, painting, drawing and snapping since she was a nipper, and grew up in a very creative family. It was only recently that she took up painting more intensely, and while she has worked with a few mediums, right now watercolour is proving favourite.
Sarah is inspired by the natural world, and finds the connection we need with it a motivator to explore it. In her wildlife paintings she likes to capture the movement or the character of each creature, a darting squirrel or a pensive robin. She is also drawn to the lonely landscapes of South Wales and the Scottish Highlands, where a single barn can sit in a landscape. Her landscape paintings are more abstract representations and reflect the places she might like to escape to, when she needs a break from a busy life!
